We previously reported that, in mice, B cells are a reservoir for bacteria during Salmonella infection. Here, we show that, within the bone marrow, B cells and their precursors are targeted for infection by Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium. Our data suggest that B cells within the bone marrow may be a bacterial niche during chronic Salmonella infection. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
