For the development of vaccines and treatments against tuberculosis, animal models are needed. In this review, the pathogenesis and immune responses during human and bovine tuberculosis will be compared. Special attention will be paid to latency, because this feature has recently become the basis of specialized vaccines against latency antigens. (C) 2008 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
