The last ten years have seen an explosion of interest, both academic and industrial, in the application of pi-conjugated molecular electronic materials to photovoltaic energy conversion. This interest has been driven both by a sharpening urgency to find affordable and low carbon sources of electricity, and unexpectedly rapid progress in the field of organic, or plastic, electronics generally.
