Using bioactive eggshell membrane as a directional template, in the presence of ethylenediamine, hydroxy strontium phosphate woolly nanospheres have been successfully synthesised by a single step reaction in mild conditions. The spheres, which were 1.8 similar to 2.2 mu m in diameter, were self-assembled from nanofibres of 30 nm in width. The route described provides a novel biological synthesis of hydroxy strontium phosphate with attractive nanostructures.
