The effect of cold pre-forging (CPF) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of extruded Mg-8Sn-1Al-1Zn (TAZ811) alloy was investigated by indirectly extruding forged billets. The results revealed that the recrystallized area fraction and tensile properties gradually increase up to 10% CPF, but then become nearly constant. The 10% CPF TAZ811 exhibited excellent tensile properties, demonstrating a yield strength of 387 MPa, a tensile strength of 403 MPa, and an elongation of 7.9%. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V.
