In this study, the microstructure, and mechanical properties of various heat-treated AZ80N specimens are investigated. Experimental results show that the 400 degrees C solution-treated AZ80N specimens will produce the AlLi and Mg17Al12 precipitates after aging at 170 degrees C and 250 degrees C, respectively, and exhibit an obvious phenomenon of precipitation hardening. The aging precipitates of AlLi and Mg17Al12 phases can significantly improve the tensile strength of AZ80N alloy, but reduce its impact toughness. (C) 2010 Elsevier BM. All rights reserved.
