The Sr3Y1-x(PO4)(3):xDy(3+) powder samples were synthesized by solid-state reaction method. The PL and PLE spectra showed that the phosphor could be excited by light from 350 to 460 nm and two strong. peaks centered at 484 nm and 576 nm corresponding to the magnetic dipole F-4(9/2) -> H-6(15/2) transition and the electric dipole F-4(9/2) -> H-6(13/2) transition. According to the Dexter's theory, it was found that the major mechanism for concentration quenching as a result of dipole-dipole (d-d) interaction. The chromaticity coordinates of Sr3Y1-x(PO4)(3):xDy(3+) phosphors are close to the white color chromaticity coordinates (x=0.33, y=0.33). These results indicate that the Sr3Y1-x(PO4)(3):xDy(3+) phosphor may be a promising single-component phosphor in the field of white LEDs. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
