Immobilization of collagen onto exfoliated layered double hydroxide (LDH) was achieved via processes of primary adsorption and further cross-linking reaction. The XRD and TEM results indicate a partial exfoliation of LDH in formamide, which is realized by break-up of particle agglomeration and layer stacking sequence due to solvent swelling effects. Further exfoliated LDH layers are attained in collagen matrix with collagen chain ranking along curved LDH nanosheets. Collagen has finally been cross-linked with glutaraldehyde by formation of collagen network with exfoliated nanosheets uniformly embedded in, achieving minimum infrared emissivity of 0.462.
