CoFe2O4 nanoplatelets and nanoparticles were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal treatment of Co(DS)(2) (cobalt dodecyl sulfate), FeCl3 and NaOH aqueous solution at 120 degrees C. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometer. The probable mechanism of the formation of CoFe2O4 nanoplatelets and nanoparticles was discussed. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
