Organic solar cells based on conjugated polymers or small molecules are a promising alternative to silicon-based solar cells due to the potential advantages in fabricating low-cost, light-weight, and flexible devices. Recently, great advances have been made in the development of high-efficiency photovoltaic materials and device structures. The highest power conversion efficiency has exceeded 11%. In this review, we focus on donor-acceptor polymers and small molecules for high-efficiency solar cells, and summarize the most recent developments in the optimization of device engineering. The analysis about the structure-property relationship may guide the rational design and evaluation of photovoltaic materials and device structures. (c) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
