Spinel spherical LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 with high capacity and high tap density is synthesized by controlled precipitation and solid-state reaction. Specifically, through controlling the component of the precursor, the product is the pure LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 phase. The as-prepared LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 powders are spherical, and the tap density reaches 2.03 g cm(-3). LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 can deliver an initial discharge capacity of 136.7, 129.2, and 108.8 mAh g(-1) at 0.2C, 1.0C, and 5.0C rates, respectively, between 3.5 and 5 V, which also demonstrates excellent cyclic performance.
