Observation of elasticoluminescence from CaAl2Si2O8 : Eu2+ and its water resistance behavior

We successfully developed an elasticoluminescent (EML) material with water resistance, CaAl2Si2O8:Eu2+ (CASE). The crystal structure, photoluminescence (PL), and EML properties were characterized for both CASE and the typical EML material SrAl2O4:Eu2+ (SAOE). Contrary to SAOE, CASE showed superior water resistance property. No changes were found in the X-ray diffraction patterns or the PL and EML intensities during the total water immersion test.
