The first catalytic asymmetric cross-coupling of alpha-halo carbono compounds with aryl metal reagents has been developed, thereby generating synthetically useful alpha-aryl carboxylic acid derivatives in good enantiomeric excess. The method can also be applied to enantioselective alkenylation reactions.
