This study investigated the sleep quality of female fitness practitioners and found that more than half of the female participants had sleep disorders, with most of them experiencing severe disruptions. The study also identified personality traits such as neuroticism, extraversion, and consciousness to have an influence on sleep quality.
Problem: sleep quality can be affected by several factors, with women tending to sleep worse than men. It has been suggested that exercise induces an improvement in sleep quality, although personality type is also a factor. Objective: to characterize the quality of sleep, the personality profiles of women practitioners of Fitness and to determine the main predictors of sleep quality. Method: the sample consisted of 113 adult women who practiced Fitness. The Mini Sleep Questionnaire was used to analyze sleep quality and the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFi) for personality profiles. The characterization of the type of modalities practiced, time and duration of training, weekly frequency, years of practice and consumption of tobacco and alcohol, was carried out by questionnaire. Results: 56 women (49.6%) have good sleep quality and 57 (50.4%) have sleep quality alterations. Significant relationships were found between sleep quality and Neuroticism (r= 0.440**, p= 0.000); Extraversion (r=-0.298**, p= 0.001) and Consciousness (r= -0.199*, p=0.035). Neuroticism was also found to significantly predict the sleep quality of participants in this study (ss=0.354, p=0.000). Conclusions: more than half of the women who make up the sample have sleep disorders, most of them verifying that the changes are severe. Personality profiles, namely Neuroticism, Extraversion and Consciousness, seem to have an influence on sleep quality. It is important to investigate the behaviors that can affect the quality of sleep and contribute to an improvement in the health of the entire population.
