Several poly(alkylene sulfide)s have been synthesized in excellent yields from reactions of alpha,omega-dibromoand/or alpha,omega-dichloroalkanes with sodium sulfide nonahydrate under reflux conditions. The procedure is general, simple and convenient for the production of various poly(alkylene sulfide)s and the way reaction parameters influence the properties of the polymers formed has been examined.
