A La-N-codoped NaTaO3 photocatalyst was synthesized by the solid-state reaction and thermal ammonolysis method. The photocatalytic reactions showed that La-N-codoped NaTaO3 has high activity of H-2 evolution (7.0 mu mol h(-1)) and long time stability under visible-light irradiation (lambda > 420 nm). DFT calculations suggested that the visible-light absorption of La-N-codoped NaTaO3 originated from the transition of electrons from the impurity states to the bottom of the conduction band.
