In this Perspective, we discuss some of the most significant aspects in the development of nanosized catalysts for Suzuki cross-coupling reactions. Thus, the effect of the size and shape of Pd nanoparticles on the catalytic activity, together with their stability, recycling ability, and the influence of different reaction parameters, will be brought up for consideration. Furthermore, a comprehensive discussion on the homogeneous or heterogeneous nature of the mechanism for Pd-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions will be conducted. Understanding where the active sites are and how the reaction takes place at those sites is the key for the design of new and more effective nanocatalysts.
