Reactions catalyzed by metalloproteins occur at the active centers, making them the focus of many spectroscopic investigations in an attempt to determine their structure. Here, an overview of the recent achievements and the current developments of X-ray spectroscopies using synchrotron light sources is presented. Their potential for investigating protein structure and dynamics is discussed.
