Various composition of lead bismuth titanate borosilicate glasses doped with one mol percent of cerium oxide in the system 55[(PbxBi1-x)TiO3]-44[2SiO(2)center dot B2O3]-1CeO(2) (0.0 <= x <= 1.0) were prepared using rapid melt quenching technique. X-ray diffraction study confirmed the amorphous nature of the samples. Structural and optical properties of the glass samples were carried out using infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy respectively. Absorption peaks in IR spectra mainly occurred due to asymmetric vibrational stretching modes of the B-O bond of trigonal BO3 units. Raman study revealed that the structural network of B-O-B stretching in metaborate rings of the glass sample. The optical band gap values were determined from Davis and Mott plots. On the basis of the differential thermal analysis, all glass samples were crystallized by given a controlled heat treatment schedule within the temperature range 607-693 degrees C. For the determination of phase, crystal structure and crystallite size, XRD was also performed on the glass ceramic samples. To understand the surface morphology of the glass ceramic samples, scanning electron microscopy was employed. The dielectric properties were studied with varying temperature at few selected frequencies. The maximum value of relative dielectric constant, epsilon(r) was found to be 973 at 100 Hz with dissipation factor, D, 3.99 for bismuth free lead titanate glass ceramic sample (x = 1.0).
