Five new (+)-oleuropeic acid derivatives, eucalmaidins A-E (1-5), together with 12 known compounds (6-17), were isolated from the fresh leaves of Eucalyptus maideni. Structures of the new compounds were determined on the basis of spectroscopic analyses (HSQC, HMBC, and H-1-H-1 COSY), chemical degradation, and enzymatic hydrolysis. Of the tested compounds, only quercetin showed slight anti-herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) activity in vitro.
