Dysprosium-doped heavy metal glasses and transparent glass ceramics have been investigated using optical spectroscopy. Visible luminescence due to F-4(9/2)-H-6(J/2) (J = 11, 13, 15) transitions of Dy3+ was registered. Based on excitation and emission spectra as well as luminescence decay analysis, some spectroscopic parameters for Dy3+ ions in glass samples before and after annealing were determined. Especially, the yellow-to-blue luminescence intensity ratios Y/B corresponding to the F-4(9/2)-H-6(15/2) and F-4(9/2)-H-6(13/2) transitions of Dy3+ ions were analyzed as a function of glass host composition and thermal treatment.
