A novel dinickel (II) complex [(Ni(N-3)(MeOH)](2)(mu-bpypz)(2)]center dot 2MeOH consisting of doubly bridged anionic 3,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazolate (bpypz(-)) and axially coordinated azido ions and methanol molecules was prepared and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, Raman, and UV-Vis spectroscopies. The crystal structure reveals that an interesting feature is the formation of a two-dimensional supramolecular network through the pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking and the hydrogen bonding interactions. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurement by using SQUID shows antiferromagnetic interaction between Ni(II) ions (H-HDVV = -2JS(Ni1).S-Ni2.J = -22.6 cm(-1), g = 2.20).
