Pyrolyzed iron-polypyrrole mesoporous spheres have been synthesized by a template-assisted ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method, and demonstrate that high volumetric surface area is critical for improving the activity of non-noble metal catalysts towards the fuel cell oxygen reduction reaction.
