We propose and demonstrate a seamless upgrades from a TDM-PON with a video overlay to next-generation (NG) access networks. User-by-user evolution from a TDM-PON with a video overlay to a WDM-PON is demonstrated without service disruptions. Then, the video overlay wavelength band including guard bands is reused in the WDM-PON. All of these upgrades can be controlled by instantaneous optical powering at the CO, which remove technical operations at the RN and keep the RN in a passive state.
