The magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE) is obtained by polymerization of silicone rubber with iron microparticles between the aluminum plates of a flat capacitor. In magnetic field, on one side, and by MRE compression, on the other, the capacity of the flat capacitor changes. The paper points out that for 1.8 <= H(kA/m) <= 12.6 and for 0.2 <= p (N/m(2)) <= 3.5, the capacity of the flat capacitor changes reversibly. Assimilating the MRE with that of an elastic body, the dependence of the bulk modulus and of the sum of the principal deformations on the strength of the applied magnetic field is determined. The results obtained in this manner are discussed. (C) 2009 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
