A series of new indeno[1,2-b]pyrazolo[4,3-e]pyridin-5(1H)-one derivatives were synthesized by three-component reactions of 1,3-indandione, 3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-amine, and aldehyde in water under microwave irradiation without any catalyst.
