Novel three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical flowerlike CaMoO4 microarchitectures self-assembled with octahedral nanocrystals (tetragonal bipyramid) (OF-CaMoO4) have been synthesized via beta-Cyclodextrin-assisted precipitation hydrothermal process. The OF-CaMoO4 microflowers have a diameter of about 2-4 mu m, and are composed of octahedral nanocrystals of about 200-500 nm that connect to each other by surface-to-surface attachments. beta-Cyclodextrin plays a crucial role in achieving the good dispersibility and octahedral nanocrystals of the final product. The OF-CaMoO4 superstructures display an enhanced photoluminescence. Our work provides an easy and novel synthetic route for the controllable construction of inorganic phosphors with hierarchical architectures. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
