In this paper, a new kind of 3D resonators based on half mode substrate integrated circular cavity (HSICC) is proposed. The HSICC resonator has low loss and can be easily integrated into low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) and multilayer PCB circuits. What's more, it can reduce nearly half the size of the normal SICC resonator. Three traditional topologies of feeding structures used for X-band HSICC resonators are investigated and compared respectively. Simulation results of these resonators with different feeding structures (slot excitation with shorting via, slot excitation with lambda/4 open stub and probe excitation) are used here to prove the feasibility of this novel resonator.
