A microwave system is investigated in the detection of surface water pollution in this paper. The frequency range of the system is 200 similar to 2000 MHz. A self-complementary Archimedean spiral antenna is designed in order to produce wideband signal. The experimental results reveal that obvious different peaks appear for different materials and densities as they have different electromagnetic characteristics. Some useful conclusions are drawn from large number of experiments. The research of this paper demonstrates that this kind of microwave system might be very useful in monitoring water pollution in real time.
