2inch size Ce:Gd3Al2Ga3O12 (Ce:GAGG) single crystals were grown by the Czochralski (Cz) method using [100] oriented seed. The crystals were up to 120 mm in length and 50 mm in diameter were achieved and had no cracks. Luminescence and scintillation properties were measured. In order to determine light yield, the energy spectra were collected under 662 keV gamma-ray excitation (Cs-137 source) were detected by a with avalanche photodiode (APD) S8664-55(Hamamatsu).The light yield of CeGAGG sample was calibrated from Fe-55 direct irradiation peak to APD. The light yield was around 46,000 photon/MeV. Energy resolution was 4.9%@662 keV for 5 x 5 x 1 mm sample. The theoretical density of CeGAGG is 6.63 g/cm(3). (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V.
