The crystal structure of a reducing dibenzylated tetrafluorinated galactose derivative is reported. The compound crystallized as the alpha-anomer, and a single OH center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bond dominates the crystal packing, leading to a helical arrangement containing two galactose derivatives per turn. Interestingly, the helices are cross-linked by ArC-H center dot center dot center dot F contacts, but without significant Ar-Ar interactions.
