Hydroxylated and aminated polyaniline nanowire networks were synthesized and used as anode materials to enhance the electrical outputs of microbial fuel cells (MFCs). MFCs with these anodes generated power and current densities as high as 0.28 mW cm(-2) (per geometric anode area) and 2.9 mA cm(-2), respectively. (C) 2011, The Society for Biotechnology, Japan.
