A detailed spherical harmonic model of the solar daily geomagnetic variation, S, is presented. The model is based on a data-set that is much more extensive in distribution, both geographically and temporally, than hitherto. The dependence of the spherical harmonics on sunspot number is investigated and is shown to be dependent on frequency. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
