Absorption and emission spectra of Sm3+ and Eu3+ co-doped lithium borate glass of the following composition: xSm(2)O(3) + (100-x)[0.84H(3)BO(3)+0.15Li(2)O+0.01Eu(2)O(3)], where x=0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 mol%, have been reported. The concentration of Sm3+ was varied keeping the Eu3+ concentration fixed at 0.01 mol%. Optical absorption and emission spectra have been measured in the spectral range from 350 to 2400 nm. The oscillator strength, Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters, branching ratios and radiative transition probabilities were calculated. The obtained results are discussed and compared with other literature data for Eu3+ in various compounds. (c) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
