Zr-based bulk metallic glass composites containing dendrites were fabricated by the Bridgman solidification. Quasi-static and dynamic deformation behaviors of the composites were investigated. It was found that fracture strength of the composites did not change obviously. However, under quasi-static compression, the stress-strain curves show obvious elastic and plastic deformations, while for the dynamic loading, it is difficult to distinguish the plastic and the elastic strain, and total strain limit is 3.6% and 5.0% for Zr58.5Ti14.3Nb5.2Cu6.1Ni4.9Be11.0 and Zr60.0Ti14.7Nb5.3Cu5.6Ni4.4Be10.0 alloys, respectively. The prompt failure under the dynamic loading was due to the insufficient time for the multiple shear bands to be generated. Crown Copyright (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
