The luminescence of Eu3+ was used to investigate the structural modification of Ce0.20Zr0.79Eu0.01O1.995 mixed oxides after various redox treatments. The Eu dopant was initially introduced selectively on the surface or in the bulk of the ceria-zirconia mixed oxide. The Eu occupancy of the surface-related site is predominant after severe oxidation pre-treatments while the bulk-related site is preferred after severe reduction (TPR) followed by mild reoxidation (MO).
