This study concerns an attempt to investigate the oxidation behavior of an in situ TiB and TiC reinforced titanium matrix composites (TMCs) in air over the temperature range 823 - 923 K. TMCs exhibited a parabolic oxidation behavior with the activation energy of 312.3 kJ mol (- 1). The results of oxidation kinetics and oxide scales formed in the test temperature for 1 - 300 h indicate that TMCs imparts excellent oxidation resistance. A detailed characterization of the microstructure and distribution of the phases within the scale following oxidation studies has been undertaken to suggest the possible mechanism for the oxidation of TMCs.
