A new species, Aureoboletus formosus, from Hunan Province of China, is described based on morphological and molecular data. Morphologically, the new species can be distinguished from other species by the combination of glutinous pileus with brownish red, grayish ruby to pink color, infertile and slightly incurved margin, vivid yellow tubes changing to grayish yellow with age and large spores (14.5) 15-16.5 (17) x 4.5-5 (5.5) mu m. Molecular data from LSU, tef1-a and rpb2 show that the new species fell within the Aureoboletus clade in the phylogenetic tree but is clearly independent from any known Aureoboletus taxon.
