We have demonstrated a distributed-feedback plastic waveguide blue laser using Fluorescent Brightener 135 pumped by a picosecond pulse laser. The optical properties of Fluorescent Brightener 135 and its laser properties including photostability were investigated. The experimental laser slope efficiency and energy threshold were 8.2% and 24 mu J, respectively. An operation lifetime of 5,000 shots was attained under a pump pulse energy of 28 mJ at a wavelength of 355 nm. (C) 2010 The Japan Society of Applied Physics
