An evaluation of the (most) recent developments of the modular transformation model, for describing the kinetics of solid solid phase transformations, has been made. As a result a two-step procedure for its practical application has been proposed. On this basis the operating nucleation, growth and impingement modes can be identified and quantified. The model has been shown to be applicable to very diverse transformations, as demonstrated by examples taken up in this paper.
