Here, the authors focus on the relationships among the electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and glass-forming ability (GFA) of an FeCoCrMoCBY alloy system. It is found that the GFA is closely related to the transport properties of Fe-based BMGs. Among the alloy system studied, the alloy containing 7% Co (Co7) shows the lowest electrical conductivity over a wide temperature range and the lowest thermal conductivity at room temperature. The origin of the superhigh GFA for the Co7 alloy has been discussed in terms of the covalent-like metal metalloid bond energy and the atomic vibration. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
