In the past two decades, fabrication of micro- and nanospheres with a narrow distribution has drawn much attention. In this work, monodisperse polystyrene (PS) colloids with diameters from 200 nm to 320 nm were synthesized by soap-free emulsion polymerization method. Photosensitive diazonium-substituted polystyrene (PS-N-2(+)) colloids were also prepared by surface modification. Colloidal crystals composed of the photosensitive nanospheres were fabricated on silicon substrate. After photolithography, stable micropatterns of colloids were obtained successfully.
