This paper examines the effect of Bi doping on the optical properties of amorphous (GeS)(1 - x) Bi (x) (0 a parts per thousand currency sign x a parts per thousand currency sign 0.15) films. Experimental data in conjunction with first-principles electronic structure calculations for Ge (n) S (m) and Bi (n) S (m) clusters are used to derive a cluster model for the structure of the amorphous (GeS)(1 - x) Bi (x) films.
