The structure of polycrystalline zinc sulfide grown by chemical vapor deposition has been studied, and stacking faults have been revealed in the cubic matrix of crystals, which lead to a striated subgranular structure. During synthesis, mixed-phase crystals are formed as a result of the characteristic polymorphism. The effect of structural inhomogeneities on the optical loss in the material in the visible range is analyzed.
