A series of lanthanide coordination polymers, [Ln(cptpy)(3)](n)[Ln=Sm (1), Eu (2),Tb (3), Dy (4), Hcptpy = 4'(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2 ''-terpyridine] have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by IR. Elemental analysis, single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1-4 are isostructural with 1D framework, in which all Ln(III) atoms are nine-coordinated and (cptpy)(-) anions adopt two different coordination modes. The network packed through pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions to form a 3D supramolecular structure without solvent molecules. In addition, the thermal stabilities and luminescence properties were also studied. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
