Silver and gold complexes, [Ag-2(L)(2)](PF6)(2) and [Au-2(L)(2)](PF6)(2), supported by but-2-yne-1,4-diyl linked bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) ligand have been prepared and structurally characterized. The complexes display novel twisted macrocyclic conformation and weak intramolecular metal-metal interaction. The complexes are intensely emissive in their solid states. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V.
