Building on the opinions of 164 enterprise system (ES) adopters from Poland, a transition economy, and using an ontology-based framework, this study revealed eight main classes of ES adoption benefits and compared them with prior taxonomies elaborated in developed economies. Findings suggested that the main ES adoption considerations characteristic of transition economies relate to an emphasis on informational benefits, a lack of strategic role of ES, and benefits resulting from imposed control over the company and employees.
