Part 1 of this series introduces the concept of an integrated palm oil processing complex (POPC) and presents a systematic approach in synthesizing and optimizing an integrated POPC controlled by a single owner. In Part 2, a systematic approach for synthesis of an integrated POPC that consists of multiple owners is developed. The processing facilities in this scenario are owned by different companies, each with its own profit-oriented goals; therefore, the industrial symbiosis (IS) concept is applied in this work. Based on the proposed approach, material and energy exchanges among the processing facilities are facilitated to promote greener operations in the palm oil industry. In this work, a fuzzy optimization approach is proposed to account for the presence of multiple parties. The optimum network configuration that addresses individual interests of owners is determined by solving the optimization model. A case study is solved to illustrate the proposed approach.
