Alumina borate whiskers with a SnO2 Bi2O3 coating reinforced pure aluminum composite was fabricated by squeeze casting. The damping behavior of the composite, which had undergone thermal cycling during the internal friction measurement, was described. It was found that there is one internal friction peak in the heating process, but there are three internal friction peaks in the cooling process. The formation of Bi-Sn eutectic at the whisker/Al interface in the composite, after having undergone one thermal cycle, is the main factor affecting the behavior and mechanism of the internal friction of the composite before and after having undergone thermal cycling.
