In this work we report the characteristics of a lithium ion battery formed by the combination of a Fe-substituted, C-coated LiCoPO4 cathode with a nano-structured Sn-C anode in a N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium-bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-Imide (Pyr(14)TFSI)-LiTESI non-flammable, IL-based electrolyte. The preliminary results show that the cell operates at about 4.5 V, as a result of the electrochemical insertion-deinsertion process due to Co3+/Co2+ redox couple at the cathode and Li-Sn-C alloying/de-alloying process at the anode, with a specific capacity approaching 90 mAh g(-1).
